Lillian Charlotte Stern is a young rising talent in New York, the Bay Area, and the international music scene. Upright and electric bassist, vocalist, composer and producer, Lillian was born and raised in the musical and artistic Bay Area of California where she was immersed in music like funk, American folk and rock, straight ahead, Afro Cuban jazz, Timba, and Hindustani music from a young age. She is the granddaughter of saxophonist and bandleader Charley Stern and has been performing since the age of 8. Lillian has performed and recorded with many incredible artists including Karl Perazzo, Fantastic Negrito, Richard Howell, Martin Luther McCoy and Jacqui Naylor and Art Khu. She has performed at Sweetwater, Yoshis, Festival Jazz Plaza in Havana, Cuba, San Francisco Carnaval, Oakland Carnaval, New Parish, Nublu, Shapeshifter Lab and more. Lillian has been under the instruction of Buster Williams and Reggie Workman at The New School College of The Performing Arts and is graduating in May 2024 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in bass performance and minors in cognitive psychology and dance. Lillian began at age 5 with classical violin & piano, switching to guitar, vocals and bass in middle school. She began playing upright bass in college and quickly began working as an upright bassist. Lillian had her band leading debut with her quintet in New York in December 2023 and will tour starting Summer 2024.
